Drug & Alcohol Testing
DOT Standards Compliant Testing
Drug and alcohol testing is required for DOT standard compliance. A drug and alcohol test is different from other examinations because it requires urine testing, as stated by DOT. In addition, the drug and alcohol test may take a little more time than other tests because it goes through a much more rigorous process.
DOT requires that an individual must test negative for the following:
- Phencyclidine (PCP)
Companies That Require Drug and Alcohol Testing
There are quite a few different types of companies that likely require drug and alcohol testing. The most common job that will need to have DOT-approved drug and alcohol testing is commercial vehicle drivers. Other jobs that may also require drug and alcohol testing could include flight crew, air traffic controllers, locomotive engineers, signalmen, and dispatchers.
Many of these jobs require that an employee have negative results for DOT drug testing prior to beginning their job. There also may be requirements that an individual may be subjected to random drug and alcohol testing. Additional Information on Drug and Alcohol Testing Procedures
Over time, there have been changes made in drug and alcohol testing. As changes are made to DOT standards, we make sure that we update our procedures. Some companies require that the employee pay for their initial drug and alcohol test and will reimburse them after they have been employed with the company for a certain length of time.
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s CSA2010 may review your company randomly, so it is important to make sure that all DOT compliance is being met. If not followed you may be subjected to large fines.
